NAATI CCL Test determines a candidate’s ability to convey the meaning of a conversation from the English language to LOTE (Language Other Than English) and vice versa. On passing CCL Test, a candidate is awarded five bonus points also known as Credentialed Community Language points, a criterion on point test for Australia immigration visa application.
NAATI CCL Test format includes: in the CCL test, a testing officer plays a recording for the test taker to interpret and translate. This recording consists of two dialogues. Each dialogue represents a conversation between a native English speaker and a native LOTE speaker. A candidate’s response is recorded for the marking procedure.
Each dialogue is of approximately 300 words, nearly half in English and half in LOTE. The dialogue is again divided into different segments. Each segment is of a maximum of 35 words.
The time allotted for the test is a maximum of 30 minutes.
How is the CCL Test taken?
•    The recording is played by the testing officer
•    A chime will be heard at the end of each segment
•    The testing officer will pause the recording at each chime
•    The candidate is given time to complete his response to the segment
•    Once the response is recorded, the testing officer restarts the recording to play the next segment
You need an overall score of 63 marks or more in the CCL Assessment Test with a minimum of 29 out of 45 marks in each dialogue in order to achieve 5 points.
The results of each test are determined by two markers, and varied inconsistencies are resolved by a third marker. The tests are marked based on acceptable responses, not ideal solutions or what the examiners would have done. There is a strong emphasis on accuracy, to ensure that the content and intent is faithfully conveyed. The quality of language is mainly viewed in terms of how well it contributes to accuracy.
After you sit in NAATI CCL Test, your CCL Test Result will be sent via email. If you pass the test, you earn five bonus points for your point-based Visa application.
If you fail the test, you can either ask for a re-mark or re-sit the test.
